Restorative Medicine

Regenerative medicine uses substances from your body to promote tissue healing and improve function. If you have an injury that’s causing you pain or weakness, Aditya Patel, MD, at Sports, Pain & Regenerative Institute in Fairview, New Jersey and Montclair, New Jersey, can help. He uses restorative medicine products like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) to boost natural healing. Find out if you can benefit from restorative medicine by calling Sports, Pain & Regenerative Institute today. You can also book an in-person or telehealth consultation online.

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine focuses on restoring, repairing, and replacing damaged tissues causing severe or chronic pain. It’s a newly emerging field that uses the healing potential of human cells to repair injured tissues.

Dr. Patel can separate and concentrate plasma and platelets from your blood and other cells that are a rich source of anti-inflammatory proteins and cellular restoration from your bone marrow.

He can then use the restorative blood plasma or bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) to boost your body’s natural healing processes.

How does regenerative medicine work?

When you injure yourself or disease damages your body, it responds by sending blood to the site. The platelets in your blood form a clot. Platelets also contain growth factors that start the tissue healing process.

Oxygen and nutrients in your blood fuel the repairs, and stem cells arrive that create replacement tissues. That all happens automatically, and in general, your body does a great job of healing itself.

However, in some cases, the natural supply of growth factors or stem cells is insufficient to complete the repair, leaving you with chronic pain and problems like weakness in the affected area.

Regenerative medicine floods the site with concentrated doses of the substances your body needs to complete the repairs. The result is stronger and healthier tissues and more relief from pain.

What conditions can regenerative medicine treat?

Regenerative medicine can help with many types of chronic pain and acute injuries. Some of the conditions that Dr. Patel uses restorative medicine to treat include:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Facet joint syndrome

The possible uses of restorative medicine are virtually limitless, and it’s one of the safest kinds of treatments because it uses your own cells to heal you.

What do regenerative medicine treatments involve?

When you arrive at Sports, Pain & Regenerative Institute for regenerative medicine treatment, Dr. Patel first harvests the cells. He draws blood to prepare PRP and bone marrow for stem cells.

After refining and condensing the active ingredients, Dr. Patel injects them into the site of your pain. He uses image guidance technology to guide the path of the needle and deliver the treatment safely.
